Meet The Family – Marvin Catoe

Since they have been helping us so much with this amazing project of moving and remodeling our house, I would like to start introducing our family to you. And, since no one has worked harder on this project than my daddy, today I’d like to tell you about him, Marvin D. Catoe, without whom we wouldn’t be nearly as far along as we are.

Daddy was the one who said to me, when I told him Nate and I just couldn’t afford to have a company move our house, “we can move it ourselves.”  I tell everyone I really think there isn’t anything he can’t do!

He has taught me so much and is still teaching me. All the things I’ve learned from him about how to build a house have been the most helpful recently with what we have going on right now. He has shown me everything from drawing up blueprints to laying a foundation—framing a structure, roofing, wiring, plumbing, sheetrock, detailed woodwork, etc…. You get the idea and will get to see me put it all to work.

Growing up on a farm he developed so many skills: plowing, planting, harvesting, taking care of cows, pigs, rabbit, horses, and chickens. His ability to create and build new things is unlike anyone I’ve ever met; he’s truly one of the smartest men you will ever meet. And he’s always laughing. “If you choose to be happy, you will be happy!”

He not only owns and runs Catoe Heating and Cooling, Inc. but he is also Assistant Chief for our local fire department. He has been a Firefighter ever since he was in his teens for the very fire department his father and uncles founded.

In his backyard he has a 100ft zip line across his pond; he loves rock crawling in his CJ5 Jeep, camping at the beach, traveling, and spending time having fun adventures with his family. He works harder than most but is no workaholic, any chance he gets he is out having fun.

With all this said, I am blessed he is my dad! I wouldn’t change him for anything and love him so much.

His life mottos are:

“Keep the main thing the main thing.” (What’s the main thing? Jesus!)

“Nothing without labor.” (This is actually our family’s motto given to us by Edward III, King of England and Lord of Ireland. Reign, 1327 – 1377 )

and the newest…. “It’s not as hard as moving a house!”
