There has been a lot of taking walls apart, framing for new windows and doors, as well as weatherproofing the whole house. We have been flip-flopping from working outside to inside as the weather allows. This makes it feel like we are moving more slowly accomplishing projects because we have started several and are flipping from one to the other. I have to remind myself just how much we have achieved and how great it will all look once the projects are all put together to make this our dream home!
Having always been good at seeing the finished product of projects in my head, I’ve gotten some pretty crazy looks from people when trying to describe what we’re doing. Things like, “we are moving and remodeling this run down huge house ourselves into an amazing cottage with an ivory tin roof, full size closing cedar shutters, wood floors, 12 foot ceilings, field stone and quartz from our hill over the foundation walls, handmade cedar doors, beams, pillars, cabinets and sooo much more…” just seem too difficult to imagine.
“You can’t do that.”
“You are going to get into this and see you need to pay a professional to do that.”
“It is going to take you way longer and a whole lot more money than you have to do that.”
These are some of the statements I have had people say to me. It is human to feel a twang in your heart when you are told things like this and then want to hide. Not just from the words that have been spit at you, but also from the fact that they don’t believe in you and want to tear you down. Instead of running away from these situations I simply tell them that I am only allowing good confessions over us and this house. And, I have come to realize that the negative words just serve to make me want to work even harder to accomplish what we have set out to do. Also, I have learned from them to never treat others that way.
God has our story in his hands because we have placed it there. He has already helped us defeat the naysayers’ words by not allowing them to take hold of us and become what we believe. The truth is that with everything in life you will meet opposition, especially if you are doing something that makes you happy and are following God’s path. But it doesn’t have to ruin it or take it away from you. I mean, look at us! I was told, “You will never move that house yourselves.” But, because Jesus blessed us with this opportunity and helped us every step of the way, we completely did!
Wow, I didn’t know I was going to get into all of that when I started writing about framing walls and weatherproofing. But if you think about it, we have framed our lives with the strong walls of Christ and are weatherproofing them with His words as our unwavering confessions of faith. I want our story to encourage people that whether it is something small or something large (like moving a HOUSE) all things are possible through the one who created us, YAHWEH!
